I grew up in a house that taught me how to survive, but not how to live. One of six children in a family shaped by substance use disorder, untreated mental illness, and unimaginable loss, I lost two siblings to suicide by the time I was 12. I blocked it out, buried the pain, and tried to follow the rules, convinced that if I just did everything “right,” I could outrun the chaos.
By 22, I was a young mom in a toxic marriage. When my youngest was 9 months old, I got my first corporate job at a Fortune 500 tech company in entry-level sales. I gave myself two years to earn tuition reimbursement, and I did it. I worked full-time, raised my kids, and earned a business degree with honors. I climbed the ladder, was promoted again and again, and eventually became a global lead in business development, delivering executive presentations to Fortune 100 companies across the world.
But the truth was, I was still running. From my past. From my marriage. From the belief that if I just achieved enough, I could finally feel safe. In 2018, I stopped running. I got divorced. I started trauma therapy. And everything changed.
Healing from Complex PTSD was the catalyst that unraveled everything I thought I had to be, and gave me permission to become who I actually am. In 2023, after 13 years in corporate leadership, I was laid off. The offers rolled in for jobs I once dreamed of, but this time I didn’t say yes. I realized I’d never once paused to ask: What do I want?
Now I’m answering that question every day.
I returned to school and began sharing my story online. What started as a personal outlet became The Complex Rebel, a creative media company built at the intersection of healing, justice, and cultural disruption.
I write to tell the truth. I speak to dismantle systems. I create to help others feel less alone.
I’m not here to sell perfection. I’m here to live my truth. And to remind us all: surviving was never the end of the story.
